Electrical resistance "heat strips" are expensive to operate. Especially if you are heating your entire home. Are you in a mobile home? In any case, a good portable heater just to heat the room you are in is a good idea and should save a lot of money. Be careful and don't leave then unattended for long periods of time. Most have safeguards
Do you have a heat pump with an electric booster ? As in does it run and feel like its blowing barely warm or cool air unless it gets really cold then an extra light comes on on the control and then the air feels warm ? If so that is a heatpump
The best thing you can do is get the heatpump serviced. and change the filters like clockwork. Call
