I have two water heaters Whirlpool - two new Lowe's in September 2008. Sunday, we ran out of hot water, I checked and found one of them will not turn. I tried lighting (I know how) and it does not stay on, even after more than three minutes.
Last night I replaced the thermocouple (TC), clean the screen, it plugged and it still would not light.
I read all the forums about the difficulty of this particular Whirlpool Flame Lock model was, but I'm just wondering if someone qualified could advise me on the next step.Do I need another controller TC gas, or is there a hidden switch / reset something I'm missing?
Thank you in advance. TheNew is your hot guy with a regular [thread right] thermocouple ... if so there should be a "cutout" type reset button on the right side of the inner door cover to the burner, press the reset button between the 2 small son who connect to it also .. ... son are connected securely to the safety cutout? is the son of the other end plugged into the [separation] t line which lies just below the? ..t is screwed tight control, and the thermocouple is screwed into the tee?... If everything ok, probably the control needs replaced, has warrenty, if you can change the thermocouple that you can change the controls ... I recommend draining the tank after turning off the gas and disconnect the old control of the tubing pilot burner tube, and thermocouple ... do not try to "jump", which means quickly screwing in the new control while the water leaves the hole left open when unscrewing control older, and more risk of water damage, you could get the thermocouple connection the new control on wet, causing the ground to about 25 millivolts of the thermocouple, pilot still wont stay lit ... ..... If you have the old style set-up, with the thermocouple threaded left, you'll need to install the retrofit kit for the new set-up ... .... Its possible the new thermocouple is "new-defective", but that is rare, it is sufficient to ensure that the pilot flame is touching as he takes ... ....

was breaker tripped?,you have a reset in top thermostat, red button,or is wire undersized?
If it is a standing pilot, you might want to clean the thermocouple. I doubt that it is if it's energy efficient.
You are going to have to do some electrical testing to find the problem. I would start by making sure that you have power coming into the heater from your breaker box. Then test each individual component of the electrical system, the energy saving devise, the thermostat, the heating element. Your heater is probably still under warranty. Check the owners
You dont have to guess. http://appliancequickfix.com/ has a step by step rundown on how to test and repair.
